The year 5 and 6 school councilors recently had a visit to the Sandwell council house. The children met Councilor Hackett and the Assistant Chief executive of Sandwell council, James McLaughlin. They discussed the importance of democracy and learnt about the structure of the council.

Alongside 10 other local schools, the children debated the question ‘Is technology useful in children’s lives?’. The children then had the chance to debate about junk food taxes, global warning and the use of electric cars.

The children shared some brilliant ideas! This was a valuable experience and something that we hope to continue with school councils in our local area.
